You already know the GOP reasoning for requiring voter ID, denying the sharing of water while you wait to vote, refusing to allow ride-sharing for “souls to the polls”, providing insufficient vote counting machines and mail-in vote collection boxes…remember all of that? Yeah, that was to disenfranchise the Black vote.
The SAVE Act? That required voters to provide two IDs to vote.
So…who does that impact? Married women who never officially changed their names. If such a woman showed up at the polls and couldn’t provide matching IDs with her maiden and married names? “Sorry ma’am, but you can’t vote.”
That SAVE Act was appended to the latest political of game of playing chicken over honoring our commitment to pay for the current federal debt. Somehow, the Dems and enough Republicans struck the SAVE Act.
Speaker Mike Johnson, one of Trump’s pets and devoted acolytes, sadly laid aside the remnants of the GOPer the SAVE Act, that party’s latest bastard child. We know Mr. Johnson’s views on women’s rights. Yeah, “teehee…what rights?”
So, this may be a good time for all married women who never officially changed their names at a government office to do so. Because if the GOPers win - a hellish thought - that bill will come up again.
