During the 2016 Presidential campaign, one Vietnam vet walked up on stage to give Trump his Purple Heart. Cadet Bonespurs said, “I always wanted one of these.” And he had the sheer gall to keep it.
Today’s edition of Salon reports that it’s happened again.
Trump held a rally in Fayetteville, NC. While on stage, another Vietnam Vet named Dwight walked up to Trump and said he "Couldn’t think of anybody more deserving after the Butler, PA “assassination attempt.”
When you think about Trump telling RFK, Jr. that his “wound” was nothing more than a mosquito bite, then watching him at the GOP Convention with an enormous gauze taped to his entire ear, it’s tempting to laugh at this latest gesture.
Please don’t.
What we should realize is that these men’s need to believe in somebody, something so badly and, despite all evidence to the contrary, they’ve deposited all that longing into Trump!
There’s a lesson here whether we like it or not. We cannot afford to be complacent. These two Vietnam vets gave nearly all in the Southeast Asia Theater and they miraculously came home. My sincerest hope is that they came back whole in body and mind. I hope their lives at home were everything they could have dreamed of while being MacNamara’s boots on the ground.
What is so tragic is where they’ve placed all their faith. We need to pay careful attention to events like this because Trump and his lawyers, his crooked poll counters, and the GOP House and Senate members are working like crazy to bring us Project 2025 and its hellish future.
And tragic figures like these two vets would have unwittingly helped to pay for it. That is the definition of tragedy. They deserved better. And so do we.
God, I hope they were paid to do that and they really weren't giving their purple hearts that they alone earned in their service to this country to such a lying, theiving, traitorous, draft-dodging coward. 🇺🇸💙
Carol L. Clark: When the Iranians attacked a small U.S. installation, many soldiers received brain concussions.
They had earned recognition with the Purple Cross.
But Trump INSISTED, as he does now, the soldiers had mere headaches.
As a result, these soldiers received permanent head injuries and were denied the Purple Cross they had earned, to stick with the "orthodoxy" of the Trump official line.
